Film Developing Time Calculator
without the guesswork.
C-41 Bw Film Developer Temp Time Compensator — Use the ILFORD black-and-white compensation guide while keeping C-41 on its exact chemistry temperature and time. Uses a focused calculator with visible assumptions. Inputs stay in your browser.
Black-and-white time is read proportionally from the ILFORD 20°C temperature-compensation chart and rounded to 15 seconds. It is released only when the exact film/developer/dilution and process controls are confirmed.
Context matters.
- The ILFORD chart applies to black-and-white processing recommendations specified at 20°C; it is not a C-41 conversion formula.
- The official chart's example converts 8 minutes at 20°C to 5 minutes 30 seconds at 24°C.
- Developer type, dilution, film stock, agitation, exhaustion and thermometer accuracy still require the current manufacturer instructions and testing.

What to know before using the result.
Can I use the ILFORD black-and-white chart for C-41 film?
No. The ILFORD chart is a black-and-white development guide. C-41 is a controlled color process and must follow the exact chemistry and equipment instructions.
Why does CalcSpan reject a black-and-white time below five minutes?
ILFORD warns that development below five minutes risks uneven development. Adjust temperature or use a supported film/developer plan instead of accepting the short result.
Does CalcSpan compensate an out-of-range C-41 temperature?
No. The Kodak preset uses 3:15 at 37.8°C ±0.15°C for the cited rotary-tube process. Outside the permitted range, correct and stabilize temperature or follow the exact kit instructions.
