Context matters.

  • This is a population projection from one measurement, not an ideal target weight or a diagnosis.
  • The range shows sensitivity to the middle half of observed weight-to-adult-profile ratios; individual puppies can fall outside it.
  • Repeated weights and body-condition scoring with a veterinarian are safer than changing food from this estimate alone.

Questions answered

What to know before using the result.

Why does the predictor ask for breed, sex and age?

Puppies follow different growth patterns by expected adult-size group and sex. Age determines how much of the adult profile is typically reached at the current weigh-in.

What does the adult-weight range mean?

It is a sensitivity range based on the middle half of filtered weight-to-adult-profile ratios in the open study data. It is not a target weight or a guarantee.

Why is there no generic estimate for giant breeds?

The published generic standards stop at 40 kg / 88 lb because growth above that level is more breed-dependent. CalcSpan asks users to track repeated measurements with a veterinarian instead of inventing a number.
