Scope

The policy applies to calculator descriptions, calculation rules, source panels, generated matrix pages and supporting guidance. It covers source selection, calculation QA, risk framing, publication and corrections.

Source hierarchy

CalcSpan prefers primary and authoritative material: statutes and regulations, government agencies, official standards, manufacturer instructions, and first-party institutional publications. Secondary sources may explain context but should not replace an available controlling source. A citation means the source was consulted; it does not imply endorsement.

Rule and calculation review

Each registered calculator carries a rule record with assumptions, jurisdiction or scope, source identifiers, retrieval dates, review status and boundary cases. Automated checks cover registry completeness, calculation behavior and publication gates. The visible “last reviewed” date refers to the recorded source-and-calculation review, not continuous monitoring and not review by a licensed professional.

Risk levels and language

• General date math may be presented as a direct calculation when the rule is stable and explicit.
• Conditional or policy-dependent results are framed as planning references and show assumptions.
• Medical, legal, tax, immigration, safety and similarly consequential topics require stronger caveats, current primary sources and a direction to verify with the responsible authority or qualified professional.

If a required source is stale, unavailable or too ambiguous, a page may be held from indexing, marked for review or limited rather than presented as certain.

Authorship and expertise

CalcSpan does not currently publish individual author bylines, an editorial board or claimed professional credentials. “Reviewed,” “verified” and similar labels refer only to the defined source-and-calculation QA scope shown on the page. They must not be interpreted as medical, legal, financial, engineering or other professional sign-off.

Automation and human judgment

Software automation may generate pages, run tests and help maintain structured rule records. Automation does not turn a source into an authority or remove the need to assess ambiguity, jurisdiction and consequence before publication. The project operator remains responsible for corrections and publication decisions.

Corrections and updates

Reports sent to [email protected] should identify the page and supporting source. Material errors should be corrected, qualified or unpublished as appropriate. Review dates and source versions should change only when that review work occurs; they are not decorative freshness claims.

Independence

Source selection and calculator results should not be changed to satisfy a commercial request. If sponsorship, affiliate relationships or paid placement are introduced, they should be disclosed where they could affect a reader’s judgment. No such relationship is implied by the present policy.
