Read before relying

Context matters.

  • Confirm whether the institution tests validity at application, score receipt, admission, enrollment or another date.
  • Score reporting availability and an institution's willingness to accept an older score are separate questions.

How this calculation works

A visible path from input to answer.

Compare TOEFL, IELTS, GRE or a custom score-age period with the exact date a receiving institution requires the score to remain acceptable. The page keeps the calculation scope and its limits beside the result so the output can be checked, copied or revisited.

Calculation flow
  1. Read the record. The calculator uses Test, Test date, Date the score must still be accepted and Accepted validity period (months) and 1 additional field supplied in the form.
  2. Apply the scope. It applies the Global admissions score-age planning — test provider and receiving institution policy control reference and the explicit date, unit and counting conventions shown in the result.
  3. Expose the checkpoints. Intermediate rows, warnings and timeline events stay visible; the emphasized row identifies the primary checkpoint when one exists.

Assumptions and scope

Calculation purpose: Compare TOEFL, IELTS, GRE or a custom score-age period with the exact date a receiving institution requires the score to remain acceptable. This is a high-sensitivity reference output; the linked authority or qualified professional controls the final decision.

Boundary behavior

Calendar inputs use plain year-month-day semantics. Leap days, month ends, date-pair order and unsupported dates are checked before the result is shown.

Questions answered

What to know before using the result.

Are TOEFL, IELTS and GRE score-age rules identical?

No. ETS reporting periods and IELTS's recommended validity treatment differ, and a receiving institution may impose a stricter checkpoint.

Should I compare expiry with the application date or enrollment date?

Use the exact checkpoint stated by the receiving institution. CalcSpan lets you enter that required-through date instead of assuming one.

Can a school accept an older score?

Institutional policies vary. The calculator shows a date comparison, not an admissions decision.
