How Long Between Coats Of Paint
without the guesswork.
Paint Drywall Mud Recoat Window Calculator — Use an exact paint or joint-compound data sheet, then let conditions and surface state override the baseline clock. Includes a practical guide and embedded calculator. Inputs stay in your browser.
The calculator applies a named technical-data schedule or the exact label hours entered. Temperature, humidity, ventilation, thickness and the observed surface are decision gates—not invented time multipliers.
Context matters.
- The BEHR PRO i300 sheet gives 1 hour to touch, 2 hours to recoat and 2 weeks to full cure at 77°F and 50% RH; temperature, humidity and film thickness affect those times.
- Dry to touch, set, ready for another coat and fully cured are different states.
- Wrinkling, cracking, blistering, poor bond, contamination or persistent softness needs product-specific correction rather than more countdown time.

What to know before using the result.
Can temperature and humidity be converted into one exact recoat time?
Not reliably. Product sheets give a baseline under stated conditions, but cool, humid, poorly ventilated or heavy applications can take longer. CalcSpan blocks the clock until the surface and conditions are acceptable instead of inventing a multiplier.
Is setting time the same as drying time for drywall compound?
No. A setting-type compound hardens chemically, while a ready-mixed drying compound must lose water. USG explicitly distinguishes setting and drying behavior.
Can I use the BEHR or USG preset for a different product?
No. Use the custom-label mode and copy the current can or technical-sheet gates for the exact product and coat system.
