Gentle return may begin as you feel ready

Context matters.

  • After an uncomplicated vaginal delivery, ACOG says gentle exercise can often begin within days or when the person feels ready. Cesarean birth or complications require individualized guidance.
  • Stop if activity causes pain. New or increasing bleeding, wound problems, pelvic heaviness, urinary or bowel symptoms, dizziness or other concerns should be discussed with the care team.
  • Get immediate care for trouble breathing, chest pain, heavy bleeding, fainting, severe or worsening headache, vision change, fever, one-sided limb swelling or pain, or thoughts of harming yourself or the baby.
